Where is the oldest producing Highland Cow in Canada?
We all know that our Highland cattle are hardy, gentle, thrifty and profitable. And we highlight these features when marketing them. But as one of our directors, Paul Thibodeau, remarked recently: Why aren’t we boasting their wonderful longevity? The majority of us have cows aged 15 years or more, who give us calves year after year. It’s not something that happens regularly in other beef breeds.
So these are the registered Highland cattle that the CHCS wants to promote. We thought we’d begin by seeking the oldest registered Highland cow living in Canada, that produces a healthy calf this year.
To enter, submit to the CHCS secretary:
- Copy of registration or traceability number of the calf to confirm the age of the cow at calving.
- Copy of cow’s registration to confirm the birth date.
- Photo of cow with her calf.
- Calf born from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016
- Open to CHCS members, living in Canada.
Deadline: March 31, 2017
Prize: TBD by the board on the next AGM. (The prize will be announced in the next Newsletter.)
So let’s go! Let’s celebrate your senior cows!
